Ray’s passion and dedication to photography was re-ignited about 7 years ago, when he started capturing awesome images of Humpback whales during their annual migration past the entrance to Port Stephens. Ray has captured some truly magnificent images of these giants of the oceans and 'The Daily Telegraph' has featured many of these images and has described them as the "Most amazing whale pictures ever seen”.
In June 2004 he captured what is believed to be the first ever “Triple Breach” of three Humpback whales in the air at the same time. This photo was published world wide and appeared in newspapers all over Australia and as a double page in the Australian GEO Magazine. Other images have featured as full page spreads in “The London Daily Mail”(page 3) and also as a double page, full colour edition in the prestigious Italian magazine “OGGI”.
Most of Ray’s whale photography has been captured off his favourite boat “Imagine” (www.imaginecruises.com.au) which operates all year round and starts it’s whale watching season in June each year, this runs till mid November. His first book published in 2004, sold out with over 2200 copies being sold in the first 18 months.
